Dr. Paul Skellenger
Dr. Paul Skellenger joined Research Pet & Bird Hospital in 1985. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University and was born in Houston, Texas. Dr. Skellenger is well known for his knowledge in avian and exotic medicine and receives many referrals from other veterinarians in Austin and surrounding areas. In 1999, he became managing partner. His wife, Lynda, is a lifelong teacher in the Leander Independent School District and they share two daughters, an Australian Shepherd, a cat named Hydro. His lifelong ambition is to be the leader of a progressive customer service oriented veterinary hospital.
Dr. Jan Anderson
Dr. Jan Anderson is a 1979 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University and has been a member of the Research Pet and Bird Hospital team since July of 2010. She was born and raised in Austin, Texas and founded Milwood Veterinary Clinic in 1986. She is a past president of the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association and has served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. For 24 years she guided Milwood Veterinary Clinic and her accomplishments include certification by the American Animal Hospital Association. She loves cats and horses and has dedicated her life to the veterinary profession.
Dr. Brandon Mitchell
Dr. Brandon Mitchell studied for his Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences at Texas A&M University while serving as a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. Dr. Mitchell continued his studies at Texas A&M and obtained a Masters Degree in Rangeland Ecology & Management in 2005 before accepting a place to study at The University of Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2010, he was awarded his degree in veterinary medicine and surgery and was also inducted as a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Mitchell spent two years working in the United Kingdom with farm animals, horses, cats, dogs, exotics and birds before returning home to Texas. He enjoys films, reading, cooking, fishing, shooting, camping and travel. Dr. Mitchell has a special interest in soft tissue surgery and oncology.
Dr. Juliette Pruitt
Dr. Juliette Pruitt is our most recent addition to Research Pet & Bird Hospital. Born in San Antonio, Texas, she received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at Texas A&M University, and then went on to receive her veterinary degree there as well. While at school she met her husband, a helicopter pilot named Daniel. She has always had a passion for exotics and has strived to work with them whenever possible. While in school she worked at an aviary where she performed positive behavior training. She also spent time at multiple exotic animal hospitals, was an officer in the Zoo, Exotics, and Wildlife Organization, and studied wildlife in Peru and South Africa. Dr. Pruitt enjoys painting, hiking, kayaking, traveling, playing the cello, and ultimate frisbee. She has a dog named Lyla, and a cat named Leo. Dr. Pruitt’s special interests include internal medicine, avian medicine, behavior, and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Crystal Schoellmann
Dr. Crystal Schoellmann recently graduated with honors from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her DVM. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a BA in Anthropology and a BS in Biology. While at UT she studied abroad in Costa Rica and Ecuador and developed a passion for conservation medicine and the relationship of people with animals. She loves working with exotics and revels in the challenge and creativity that comes with treating each unique species. She is particularly interested in birds and wildlife, and has volunteered time with several raptor rehabilitation centers in North Carolina, including the Carolina Raptor Center and Cape Fear Raptor Center. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, singing, and throwing pottery. Her mini zoo at home consists of a Yorkie named Birdie, a cat named Finn, a bronze-winged pionus named Nigel, and 2 corn snakes (Puck and Juliet).
